Instructions for Making Tea Cup Candles with AstorLite J50 (now IGI-4636A)

Materials Equipment
IGI Parafflex 4636A® (AstorLite J50®) Candle Wax Double Boiler
Tea Cups for Candles Thermometer for Candle Making
Fragrance Oil/Scent Pouring Pot
Liquid Dye Scale
Wick or Wicks Oven
Weigh Wax:
  • Weigh the amount of IGI Parafflex 4636A® (AstorLite J50®) candle wax needed for your project.
  • You will need to determine how much wax your tea cups will hold.
Melt Wax:
  • Heat IGI Parafflex 4636A® (AstorLite J50®) candle wax to between 145°F-170°F using a double-boiler system.
  • Use a candle thermometer to check temperature.
Pre-Heat:
  • Pre-Heat Tea Cups in oven at 140°F or at lowest setting.
Add Scent:
  • Add up to 4 - 6% fragrance by melted wax weight not to exceed 1 ounce of scent to 1 pound of wax.
Add Dye:
  • Add dye until desired color is achieved.
  • You can test color by dropping a few drops of wax onto a piece of white paper.
Stir well:
  • Stir thoroughly to incorporate scent and dye.
Pour Wax:
  • Lower the pouring temperature to between 145°F - 160°F.
  • Pour into Tea Cups  that have been preheated to between 130°F - 140°F.  This allows for better side adhesion.
Insert Wick:
  • Once the candle wax has solidified about ¼ inch at bottom place the appropriate wick in the Tea Cups.
Cooling:
  • Allow to cool as slowly as possible.
  • Do not place in a water bath or refrigerator to accelerate the cooling process.
Trim Wick:
  • When the candle has completely cooled trim wick.

Never melt wax on a gas stove, it has a Flash Point & is Flammable.
Never leave wax unattended.
