Weigh Wax: |
- Weigh the amount of M38 candle wax needed for your project.
- Please note:
- To make chunks you can use a left over candle or tart, just cut
them into small pieces and make sure you have enough to fill your
mold or you can make them from scratch.
- If you make them
from scratch you will need two batches of wax for this
project. One for the chunks and one for the over-pour.
- Consult our
Molds for Pillar Candles page to see how much wax each of our
molds will hold.
|
|
Melt Wax for Chunks (Scratch Method): |
- Heat M38 candle wax to between
140°F-160°F using a
double-boiler system.
- Use a
candle thermometer to check temperature.
|
|
Add Scent: |
- Add up to 4-6% fragrance by melted wax weight not to exceed 1
ounce of scent to 1 pound of wax.
|
|
Add Dye: |
- Add dye until desired color is
achieved.
- You
can test color by dropping a few drops of wax onto a piece of white
paper.
|
|
Stir
well: |
- Stir thoroughly to
incorporate scent and dye.
|
|
Make
Chunks: |
-
To make your own chunks from
scratch pour melted, colored candle wax into a baking sheet.
-
Once it has started to cool
using a knife cut into small chunks.
-
Once the wax has cooled
completely remove the chunks from the pan.
- You can make a
variety of colored chunks or just one color. Be creative!.
|
|
Prepare Molds: |
-
While wax is melting set up molds by inserting appropriate size wick
pins into clean molds.
|
|
Place
Chunks in Mold: |
-
Fill the mold with the cooled
chunks.
|
|
Melt
Wax for Over-pour: |
-
When you are heating your wax
for your over-pour keep this in mind.
- If you want
your chunks to bleed through increase the temperature you pour
your wax.
- To get bubbles
and texture on the surface lower the temperature of the wax when
you pour.
- Heat M38 candle wax to between
140°F-160°F using a
double-boiler system.
- Use a
candle thermometer to check temperature.
|
|
Add Scent: |
- Add up to 4-6% fragrance by melted wax weight not to exceed 1
ounce of scent to 1 pound of wax.
|
|
Add Dye: |
- Add dye until desired color is
achieved.
- You
can test color by dropping a few drops of wax onto a piece of white
paper.
- For this method it is best not to add dye to over-pour. This allows you
chunks to be visible.
- If you choose to add dye make over-pour a very
light color to allow chunks to be visible.
|
|
Stir
well: |
- Stir thoroughly to
incorporate scent and dye into Over-pour.
|
|
Pour Wax over Chunks: |
- Pour your wax over the chunks.
|
|
Cooling: |
- Allow to cool as slowly
as possible.
- Do not
place in a water bath or refrigerator to accelerate the cooling process.
|
|
Second
Pour: |
- Once the first
pour has completely cooled, remove the candles with wick pins
from the molds to make sure it releases.
- Return candles with wick pins to the mold and top off the candles
as needed.
|
|
Insert & Trim Wick: |
- After the 2nd
pour has completely cooled the candles are ready to be wicked.
- Remove candles from
your mold and remove wick pins.
- Consult our
Molds page for recommended wick size for
each of our molds.
- Insert appropriate
wick for your candles.
- Trim wicks as needed.
