Instructions for Making Cube Candles with AstorLite OK6228/1 (now IGI 4750A)

Materials Equipment
AstorLite OK6228/1 Candle Wax Double Boiler
Square Votive Molds Thermometer for Candle Making
Fragrance Oil/Scent Pouring Pot
Liquid Dye Scale
Wick or Wicks Oven
Weigh Wax:
  • Weigh the amount of OK6228/1 candle wax needed for your project.
  • You will have to determine how much wax your Square Votive molds will hold.
Melt Wax:
  • Heat OK6228/1 candle wax to between 140°F-160°F using a double-boiler system.
  • Use a candle thermometer to check temperature.
Prepare Molds:
  • While wax is melting put clean molds in oven at 140°F or at lowest setting.
Add Scent:
  • Add up to 4-6% fragrance by melted wax weight not to exceed 1 ounce of scent to 1 pound of wax.
Add Dye:
  • Add dye until desired color is achieved.
  • You can test color by dropping a few drops of wax onto a piece of white paper.
Stir well:
  • Stir thoroughly to incorporate scent and dye.
Pour Wax:
  • Remove pre-heated molds from oven.
  • Pour Wax wax that is between 140° F-155° F into clean molds, the lower the temperature the less it will shrink.
  • Don't forget you will need to save some wax for the 2nd pour.
Insert Wick:
  • Once the candle wax has solidified about ¼ inch at bottom insert the appropriate wick.
Cooling:
  • Allow to cool as slowly as possible.
  • Do not place in a water bath or refrigerator to accelerate the cooling process.
Second Pour:
  • As the candle solidifies, re-pour wax at 20° F above initial pouring temperature.
Trim Wick:
  • Trim wick as needed.

Never melt wax on a gas stove, it has a Flash Point & is Flammable.
Never leave wax unattended.
